Seminar on Stone Tools for the Saudi British Group
The National Museum held a seminar in the Unification Gallery titled ‘Introduction to Stone Tools found during Saudi British Archeological Digs along the Southwestern Coast of the Red Sea’ Thursday 30/1/1437 at 10:00 am by Dr. Antonio Sinclair, from University of Liverpool and supervised by Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim AlHelawi, member of the archeological group. The seminar covered the beginnings of human migrations from Africa to Asia, Europe and Australia via Arabia, with special attention to Red Sea archeology and geology. The seminar also covered recent studies and research on the Paleolithic Era in the region with special attention to human migration. Seminar started with marine investigation through new construction and formation current seascape of the sea bottom using a diving program to discover and investigate such nature. Discussion moved on to cover surveys and concerned land areas in Najran and Hurrat Barak (lava field). Dr. Antonio Sinclair focused on two significant archeological sites: Dibs and Dhahban Valleys. He concluded the seminar with a presentation of numerous technological studies and research uncovering all that is related to man; investing local resources and the availability of a skills module for creating stone tools. Dr. Antonio Sinclair also held a workshop after the seminar titled ‘Characteristics of Stone Tools: How they are Created and Dated’. A number of museum officials took part in the workshop which was held in gallery lab.
